Mukambi Lodge at Kafue National Park

From Livingstone we bussed back to Lusaka and stayed the night. We got up the next morning and made one of many trips to the airport to retrieve Kevin's luggage. In all we went about 5 times over 11 days. Ridiculous. Soon after our unsuccessful luggage trip we boarded a bus to Kafue National Park, west of Lusaka. Our coworker and suitemate, Tyronza joined us for the Kafue trip. The bus dropped the four of us along side the road at the Kafue River and thankfully the lodge was there to pick us up. The lodge was just outside the park We tent camped and found that the animals aren't real strict about staying in the park. We made friends with some wart hogs right away.





I was hospitable enough to invite one to my tent. Really, he entered with some encouragement from Michelle. I was torn between wanting to kick it out and not wanting to touch it...he stayed for a little while and tried to eat my shoe (which wsan't on my foot at the time). Their hair calls for rogaine and those big teeth need some sort of brush. It's strange that their necks aren't too flexible. They have to walk on their front knees to get low enough to eat. By the end of our stay they weren't any different than a dog really.



The lodge was sweet. We were fed 3 meals a day if we were hungry or not. We usually went on two game drives a day and did a couple boat cruises on the river. Saw a ton of animals...elephants, zebras, impalas, and a pack of lions. We came upon the lions as we drove back home one night. One of the guides located them with the spotlight but pictures didn't turn out with my camera. Kevin got most of the good pictures. He and Ty saw a pack of wild dogs, leopards, more lions. Michelle and I decided to stay back when they went out for that drice.

The trees were pretty amazing, especially the Baobab. Huge.




We enjoyed the view over the river and happened to find a cat that needed a house.




And the amazing elephant story that came out of Mukambi Lodge deserves its own post so we will work on that soon.

Bears update...we have the satellite up and working and everything looks good for the game on Monday (strange). I'm guessing the Bears win 24-17...and that Michelle will not be awake for the entire fourth quarter. We'll see.
